What would you suggest learning as a beginner Jazz bassist?

I already play bass, and I'm looking to join the jazz band next semester. What are some standards, or techniques that you suggest I learn before hand?|||Blues Scale, get Essential Elements Jazz Ensemble for Bass. It is a great book for beginners and it teaches you the basic scales and rhythms for different types of jazz. =)|||learn major, minor, and pentatonic scales in all keys


learn to play major, minor, augmented, and diminished arpeggios (root third fifth and seventh) for every chord root in the chromatic scale.


Practice reading through chord charts and arpeggiating the chords (root, third, fifth, seventh)


learn to play a "walking" bass line


learn to play a bass line built from combining the arpeggios in a chord chart with passing tones that connect them together


learn to play blues form in twelve keys


learn to recognize and play the following styles: swing, latin, mainstream jazz, funk


learn to take a single idea and change it to fit the chords as they go by


learn to play solos that have a beginning, a middle, and an ending.|||learn to walk thru the changes
