Where to buy jazz shoes in Chicago area?

My 11 yr old daughter will be starting jazz classes. Where is a good place in the Chicago area (preferably south suburbs) to buy jazz shoes? Since this is her first time taking jazz classes I want to buy decent but not ridiculously expensive ones. Also, if you have any tips about which kind (leather v. canvas, split sole v. non-split) are good for a beginner, I would love to hear them.|||The best place to buy any type of dance shoes from jazz to tap, is Hidden Talents.

They have a ton of shoes, lots of dance clothes, and some neat little collectables. Its fairly expensive, but well worth the money, because the quality of the shoes and clothes are great.


Leather is definately the best choice for jazz shoes because it doesn't give (as many!) blisters as canvas ones. I recommend split sole because the shoe will be able to bend more easily and you will be able to move smoothly on the floor.





I speak as someone who has taken jazz only a couple times, but I use my jazz shoes for lots of other things, such as stage slippers for plays, beginner ballet slippers, beginners tap (if you are just taking a test lesson) and just running around my house! One more tip: get a size of jazz shoe at least one size bigger than your normal size because you really don't want to buy another pair everytime you take a new jazz class! I made that mistake, and I've now bought 2 pairs of jazz shoes, 3 pairs of tap shoes (which are horribly expensive), and 4 pairs of ballet shoes!
