I'm looking for a new bass, one for rock/metal/punk/ genres, and I heard that Jazz bass can be used in these genres, but Im wondering what distincts the J-Bass from the other types.|||Jazz bass:
Two single coil pickups,
Off set body,
Thinner neck,
2 volume, 1 tone control,
Lighter than a P-bass.
Precision bass:
Fatter neck,
Larger body,
1 split single coil pickup.
1 volume 1 tone control
More options on the jazz bass as far as sound.
But the P-bass is still used since it's birth in the 50's.
The P-bass will always be #1 on a bass players list.
The Jazz bass is hot and flashy, but if you are not Flea, Marc Miller, Geddy Lee, or Tal W., then a P-bass will be all you'll ever need.
