Im visiting family in Long Island and would love to go into the city for a night out at a jazz club with my friends but our ages range and the youngest is 18... any ideas? Preferably not ridiculously expensive ha ha. Thanks everyone!|||You can get into any venue that is classified as a restaurant and some of the restaurants that feature jazz are:
The Blue Note, Iridium, The Jazz Standard, BB King's (take note though they don't have jazz often, you have to watch the listings), Lucille's at BB Kings (a small room next to the main room where there is never any cover) - they don't always have jazz either and definitely no big name artists, so you'll have to watch the listings. In all the venues that you have to pay to get in, admission varies depending on the artist.
You may be able to get into the Lenox Lounge in Harlem...I'm not sure about their policy though. They serve food in the back room, not so much the front.
Boom on Wooster Street is a younger hang out that often has jazz...a friend of mine plays there most Thursday nights and I've performed there with him on a number of occasions. I've had friends who were under age come in with no problem.

Does anybody know of a coffee shop that has live jazz music or jazz events in downtown chicago?
I'm not of legal age for consuming alcohol, which removes a large amount of bars and lounges, but I was wondering if anybody knew of a nice coffee shop that has live music, preferably jazz.|||There's uncommon ground, at clark and grace.

I LOVE Christmas Music played to a jazz rhythm. What are some good albums or songs?
I already have the GRP collection (I, II and III) and recently bought some Christmas songs played to Latin and Cuban jazz rhythms. Now that WILL perk you up!
Anyone else like that kind of Christmas music? What are some good songs or albums?|||Do you have Diana Krall Christmas Songs? If not then you should since you like jazz. iTunes has an abbreviated version of the album - 7 songs instead of the entire 12 if you buy the CD. Of course you also need to have "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt. My favorite Christmas album is The Christmas Attic by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. If you鈥檇 like something a bit mellow check check out Holiday Guitar by Dan Crary.

You will find on Amazon a few people bemoaning the fact that the track listing does not quite stack up to a previously released LP of the same title, but I didn't own that LP so this compiliation seems great to me. Other than Mel Torme, a lot of the names on this album don't jump right out at you, but it's real, old school Jazz. Very cool, very mellow, very nice...and relatively inexpensive too.
Another one I have is "Verve Presents: Very Best of Christmas Jazz" is very good too.
As far as Jazz Vocalists go, my family was always a fan of Ella Fitzgerald and "Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas" bring back wonderful memories for me. That gets played every year too.
Good luck with finding some new stuff. There's a lot out there to choose from.|||The lighting of the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center ... Harry Connick Jr. was playing some songs of his new Christmas album. Even his daughter is singing now.....

Are jazz pants with shiny or soft fabric better?
I ordered some jazz pants expecting the soft fabric that isn't shiny (I think it's cotton with lycra or spandex?) but instead got the shiny ones that are tactel/spandex. Which kind is better or why do people prefer on over the other?|||I'd been told that matt was better for plumper dancers, and that shiny would highlight my problem areas.
So I generally go for absorbent or breathable materials, and matt - but I recently ordered a Mirelle sleeveless leotard that was shinier than I would have liked. I nearly sent it back but decided to give it a trial by wearing it to class.
(There isn't much choice when you are XL - it's black, black, or black, and wait 3 months while they dig on the shelves or have to order it in)

What is an Easy Jazz song to play on guitar?
i need to learn a jazz song on guitar for music class. i need an quick and easy song to learn within the next 2 - 3 weeks. Jazz is kinda not my thing so im asking you guys for help :P thanks!|||Blue Bossa might be a good choice. It's not too hard and is extremely very popular with bossa and Latin players but people still love it.|||"broadway" is a good tune, and I agree with the guy on blue bossa, great tune also. Also, stuff like the chicken and birdland, as well as equinox.|||The easiest standard that I can think of is SOFTLY AS IN A MORNING SUNRISE. What to wear to the New Orleans Jazz Festival?
We will be attending the New Orleans Jazz Festival tomorrow for the first time. I was wondering what are the best clothes to wear??? And what other recommendations do you have!! (Temperature will be 82 degrees!)|||NO HIGH HEELS OR PLATFORM SHOES. I always see people wearing them and they always bust there *** on the sand. Wear flip flops or tennis shoes. LOTS OF CASH. The food is amazing try the crawfish beignets, crawfish bread, Cochon du lait po boy, soft shell crab, crawfish monica, and strawberry lemonade.
Wear warm weather clothes. Wear a casual flowy dress, shorts, skirt, and tank top. People even walk around in shorts and a bathing suit top. Yes hats are good too.
You can bring in your own water now.|||The latest tops which I love are the ones with sparkles, jewels, etc. Makes one feel great--the more glitter the better with plain slacks, denims or skirts. Bright colors so you don't get lost in the crowd.|||Wear a hat, lightweight, light-color, all cotton clothing and comfortable shoes. Sunglasses will be important. Shorts are good. A small backpack with a folding umbrella and sunblock will also be good.|||You know its going to be hot!!!! Wear shorts and tshirt...A hat is a good idea...sun sreen is a must...and drink lots of water!!!

our default title is the "Jazz Singers". Lame! Help me come up with some more original names!|||Use your State or City (or a slang name everyone in your town or state knows, and add "Voices".
There is already a famous vocal jazz group called "New York Voices" (A lot like Manhattan Transfer . . . but different - lol, but same awesome harmonies).
